Sissi

Sissi is set away from the main road in a veritable sea of olive trees. The small fishing village has seen a lot of building in the last years: new apartments, hotels and "Villages", bars and restaurants, but the quiet atmosphere has remained.

Getting there: Sissi is located 40 km from Heraklion and 25 km from Agios Nikolaos. As it is away from the main road there are only very few public buses a day and if you want to move around it is best to have a car.

Accommodation: there are plenty of hotels, studios and apartments but many of those are in the hands of tour operators. Sissi also has a very clean camping site located about 500m west of the fishing harbour. No beach there but it has a pool.

Restaurants: a few good restaurants in the village

 

 

Shopping: is pretty basic in the village but you are not too far from Agios Nikolaos and only 7km from Malia if you want to do some serious shopping.

Nightlife is minimal but Malia is only a few km away

Beaches are not the strong point of Sissi: there are only two very nice but small sandy beaches of Boufos and Avlaki located between cliffs to the East of the village as well as the artificial beach of the 830 beds holiday resort 'Kalimera Kriti' a little further east.
